The Story of Dead Low.
“Dead Low” is the minimum depth a river is navigable. For a canoe, it’s 8 inches. For a flatboat, it’s 6 feet. For a steamboat, Dead Low is 12 feet or "Mark 2". Early steamboat pilots would navigate the mighty Ohio River with their "Leadsman" who marked the river's depth to find Dead Low by casting out a lead line singing "Mark Twain"- the pen name Samuel Clemens took from his early years as a steamboat pilot before he became the famed author he's remembered for today. Those who marked Dead Low remind us of the values our brewery was founded on — courage, perseverance, pioneering vision, mindful attention to detail along the journey, and the love of song to communicate what’s important.
